Flupol’s R&D lab is focused on the development and testing of coating formulations.
Complete formulations are developed from isolated component, encompassing high performance polymers, nanomaterials of different chemical nature, as well as more traditional micro fillers. The laboratory is equipped to perform polymer solutions and dispersions, nanomaterial milling, dispersion and stabilization as well as to perform advanced microcapsule synthesis.
Coating testing is performed by assessment of surface energy, optical microscopy, cross-hatch adhesion and abrasion resistance. For coating developed for tribological applications, exhaustive tests at multiple P.V (pressure x velocity) combinations are performed in a servo controlled tribometer according to ASTM D3702 (thrust washer) and ASTM G99 (pin on disk) standards. These tribological tests provide thorough information on the coefficient of friction and wear rate characteristics of each coating.
